How integrated pest management works at your site

Integrated pest management (IPM) is a prevention-first way of deciding if and how to treat. Every decision follows the same five steps.

  1. Prevent

Healthy soil, proper mowing height, irrigation and mulch make sites less hospitable to pests and weeds.

  2. Monitor

Regular site inspections record what pests are present, where, and how many.

  3. Identify & set thresholds

Correct identification and agreed action levels decide when — and whether — to act.

  4. Use non-chemical controls first

Mechanical removal, cultural changes, barriers and beneficial organisms.

  5. Least-toxic materials, only when justified

Organic-first, OMRI-listed where available, applied by a licensed applicator, recorded and reviewed.

FIELD NOTE [[DRAFT — Chris to confirm or rewrite in his own words]]

“Most weed and pest problems on school grounds start with compacted soil and thin turf. Fix the soil, and you fix half the problem before you ever reach for a product.”
